It replaces the Natural’s Connecticut-style wrapper with a Brazilian Mata Fina Maduro wrapper, while keeping the Gaaja concept centered around aged tobaccos, smooth construction, and a complex multi-country filler blend. The result is a medium to medium-full cigar that brings more depth, sweetness, and richness while preserving the refined balance that makes the Gaaja series distinctive.
Expect a layered profile of dark chocolate, espresso, cedar, earth, toasted nuts, sweet tobacco, cream, and gentle pepper, with the Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper adding a deeper cocoa-like sweetness and a smooth maduro character. Compared with the Gaaja Natural, the Maduro leans darker and more robust, but it stays polished rather than heavy or harsh. Starts off with rich chocolate then settles in with a tanginess and a spice that reminds me of root beer. This is a great experience of a highly aged cigar. My only complaint is the tanginess can overpower it at times thus muting the other flavors.
Garrison nailed the notes on this – rich and dark espresso, toasted cedar, toasted nuttiness, chocolate undertones, smooth edges and creamy smoke. Either through blending or aging, there aren’t any major transitions through each third, but one common theme with varying strength and position of the flavor in the intensity. Think Padron for what I mean. Great experience and glad I grabbed a few.
So happy to see John bring in Mbombay. Love having access to these nicely aged unique blends that punch far above their price point.
